Now Hiring: a student Business Analyst!

(Closes March 14th)

At Left Turn Right Turn (LTRT), our mission (and yours, should you choose to accept it!) is to help agencies and communities achieve visionary transformation by delivering pragmatic public transportation and accessibility solutions. We are a boutique consultancy specializing in public transportation and accessibility policy and planning. Over the past six years we have been successful in growing from a team of three to over twenty! However, our productivity and task management tools and associated processes remain largely the same. As a student business analyst at LTRT you will be responsible for leading a project to refine and streamline our task management, project management and workforce planning processes using our Asana platform and documenting these newly streamlined processes

For context on the work that we do, some of the projects LTRT has delivered to clients across North America over the past year include:

  • Undertaking a regional planning exercise and governance review for multiple agencies.
  • Developing a technology roadmap and organizational plan.
  • Analyzing and preparing capital infrastructure plan including fleet plan.
  • Building accessibility and inclusion self-assessment tools through consultations with people with disabilities and discussions with international legislative bodies.
  • Developing accessibility plans under the Accessible Canada Act for federal entities and regulated industries.
  • Developing resources to enhance how the Ontario post-secondary sector incorporates accessibility into the selection of educational technology.

Our DNA

The LTRT team is creative, collaborative, and balanced - it's in our DNA.

Creative: We look for new ideas and methods to inject at the start of each project. This keeps things fresh and relevant for the client, and exciting and interesting for us. We innovate in the work that we do because one can, and one should, always strive to improve.

Collaborative: We communicate effectively, whether in-person, in writing, or by carrier pigeon. We mix working meetings and workshops regularly into our projects to keep us in sync internally as well as with clients. Most importantly, we’ll support each other during crunches so no one bears the load alone.

Balanced: We value a balanced approach to work and life. We’ll crack a joke when the time is right, and crack down when it’s not. We’ll follow up that long work week with necessary recovery time off (with some food, drinks, and the occasional board game to accelerate the process!).

Job Responsibilities

As a Student Business Analyst, you will be working directly with the LTRT Management Team to deliver a transformative project just for us! By applying your interest in business process analysis and engineering, you will be able to learn about project management and execution while applying your smarts, experience, and creativity at a culture-focused firm. Your responsibilities would include:

  • Studying and documenting our internal business processes that relate to task management, project management, workforce planning and proposal development by meeting with LTRT staff and shadowing current processes.
  • In collaboration with the LTRT Management Team, identifying our gaps in these processes and defining the key functional and business needs for improvement through internal workshops and interviews.
  • Evaluating the suite of tools available in our task management platform (Asana) and mapping those tools against our functional and business needs.
  • Presenting alternative processes and Asana templates or integrations to the LTRT Management Team that address the gaps and needs.
  • In collaboration with the LTRT Management Team, refine the preferred process and tool improvements and prepare updated business process documents.
  • Support the LTRT Management Team in piloting the new business process and tool improvements, and training staff on updates.

Think of this as an opportunity to carry out your own process improvement project as a business consultant while working with a small, culture-focused organization committed to making the world more accessible, navigable and inclusive for all.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Have an interest in project management and business process reengineering for small businesses and consulting companies
  • An interest in public transit and/or accessibility issues.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a knack for preparing, editing and formatting clear, accurate documents and slide decks using Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent graphic design and chart-making skills using tools like Visio or similar, (experience with Business Process Mapping Notation is a plus).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team environments.
  • A third- or fourth-year university student in good standing studying in business, engineering, computer science or other relevant field of study.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment.
