We're Hiring a Transit Innovator

Left Turn Right Turn (LTRT) is a rapidly growing consulting firm. We help our clients understand their current situation, develop a vision of a better future, and build a plan to get them there. We’re passionate about improving communities through the collaborative exploration of solutions in transit and accessibility.  Our transit team’s mission is to get people out of cars and onto transit. We pride ourselves on offering: Pragmatic Solutions. Visionary Transformation. (Alright, so it’s a bit cheesy… but we like to think it’s true!!). The LTRT team is creative, collaborative, and balanced.  These are our core values that embody our approach to everything.

More information about our culture, compensation and what its REALLY like to work with us can be found right here.

Responsibilities:

As a Transit Innovator you would tackle a wide variety of projects, apply your smarts, experience, and creativity with our fun and dynamic team. You would actively engage in business development and foster relationships with clients. Most importantly, you’d bring a particular passion for public transit.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Primary and secondary source research and critical review.
  • Developing methodologies to collect, refine, and analyze data to inform planning, operations, financial and other business decisions for public transit systems.
  • Coming up with innovative strategies and recommending improvements and documenting them for public transit systems
  • Developing technical specifications and system architectures
  • Presentations and workshop development and delivery
  • Proposal development
  • Project management and implementation oversight

Typical assignments involve researching best practices, developing strategic recommendations, crafting transit service plans, helping with procurements on behalf of an agency.

Occasional travel may be required as our clients are spread across the continent.

This is primarily a work from home position as LTRT does not currently maintain permanent office space. There are occasional opportunities for in person gathering (for work or socializing) in the Greater Toronto Area (however candidates do not necessarily need to live in the GTA).

Here’s some examples of how we are influencing transit:

  • We are crafting Niagara Transit’s first-ever Transit Master Plan, proving the value of improved regional services and integration for residents, visitors and businesses.
  • We developed a holistic real-time transit information system strategy for TransLink and are now helping them advance that strategy. This includes looking not just at the technology and data, but also at the governance and organizational changes needed to make it happen.
  • We developed a strategy for BC Transit on how its specialized services for customers with disabilities should be delivered consistently across the province.
  • We completed a top-secret review of a transport service to figure out how to make it run better (or if it shouldn’t be operating at all?!)
  • We engaged with community partners, stakeholders and residents in Charlottetown to develop a transformative Transit Master Plan for the Prince Edward Island Capital Area.

Qualifications:

Do you have some or all of the following?

  • 3-10 years of professional experience is desirable.
  • Degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Business, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Urban Design, or related experience.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to determine root problems and come up with solutions.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a knack for translating technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Advanced Excel skills and/or qGIS are an asset.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team environments.
  • Know and have a passion for public transit issues; transit industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Have interests outside of work and a willingness to play a board game now and again.

We are open to candidates across Canada or the US. Newer professionals would need to live near one of our current offices in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Montreal or Prince Edward Island.

We are committed to reflecting the diversity of our communities and to supporting all our people to do their best work and be their whole selves. We strive to be an accessible workplace and offer accommodations for employees with disabilities. We welcome applications from, Indigenous folks, people with disabilities, women, racialized candidates, and 2SLGBTQ candidates.

Salary:

Annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 depending on experience.

How to Apply:

If you think you are a good fit for us, we’d love to hear from you. Email your cover letter and resume to team@ltrt.ca by October 21st, 2024. Please include Transit Innovator in the subject line. Tip: Adding interesting tidbits about yourself in your cover letter is encouraged!

Disability-related and other accommodations are available for candidates selected for interviews (email krystle@ltrt.ca).

Thank you for your application!
